Tours Jaan is Doing
Complete Tallinn Tour: Highlights & Hidden Gems
Coming with a Cruise or short in time? See the Old Town and other main sights in just five hours.
Jaan is a history student from Tartu. He claims is the coolest town in the world, we do not disagree. His love of history is something that still impresses us every day in the Traveller group.
Before becoming a tour guide Jaan worked in a large international sports data and betting company spending eight hours a day behind a computer screen watching numbers. After breaking free from the chains of a 9-to-5 job, he loves spending time in the beautiful Estonian nature with travellers.
As an avid football fan Jaan dreams of one day seeing Estonia play at the World Cup, this - much like teleportation - is currently impossible in this universe, so he has agreed settle for the European Championship. He also is an extremely average fantasy football player.
On his tours, get ready for some insight and insider information about Estonian life, culture and politics throughout different eras.

Very nice tour with interesting stops and many facts about the history of Estonia and Latvia.
My partner and I did several Traveller tours. I love a chance to escape outdoors and this was the tour I was most looking forward to! Although you could certainly visit the Lahemaa National Park on your own if you hired a car, the tour has been designed to take you to all the best bits. I am glad we decided not to do it ourselves, as the best part of the tour was our tour guide. Jaan and the guides we had are passionate about history. Rather than rattle off facts you will never remember, they use humour or personal stories to help you understand the history of their country. We just couldn't possibly appreciate the places we were visiting without their knowledge of history and the local area. Riding the Estonian swing, wandering through the bog and eating smoked salmon in a traditional fishing village are memories I will keep forever. Thank you.
Professional and good staff, we received many and interesting information all over the way. Nice views
Jaan created a great experience. At first we did not know what to expect. But after a few minutes we laughed and had fun already in the early morning. Jaan made us enthusiastic about both the Latvian as well as the Estonion history and culture. Jaan served us well and was flexible in accepting our requests. Beer, history and culture: wow!
I love the tour overall, it's worth your money spent. The atmosphere was soooo relaxing and I had a super nice group & guide. Jaan is informative and funny. Will recommend this to anyone who wants to visit Tallinn.
Good company, interesting places to visit, knowledgeable guide. Great way to travel between Tallin and Riga
A fun tour by van around the northern coast of Estonia outside of Tallinn. Easy to book, easy to find, and the day goes by so fast with all the activities. Guides (Jan and Andres) were knowledge and fun, the lunch at the Maritime museum was just amazing. I'd recommend it as a day trip from Tallinn.
This tour was a good opportunity to see the countryside in Estonia and hear our very informative guide recount many interesting stories about Estonia. The bog boardwalk offered great vistas of a unique landscape. And the salmon lunch was delicious!
This trips takes tourists to interesting countryside and nature spots which they otherwise won't be able to see and get to know if not travelling by a private car. The nine-hour trip is full of actions, story and fun. The tour guide Jaan (I hope I got your name right) is funny and not boring.
Jaan was a terrific guide. He’s from Estonia and knew so much history. He accommodated everyone on the tour and was so gracious. We saw sights I’d never have seen on a regular bus. I especially liked Cēsis and the Soviet era bobsled track. Also spending a half day with people from all over the world and then eating lunch with them was also a brilliant experience. Worth every penny.
An excellent way to travel between Riga and Vilnius. The stops were all the key must sees. I went to the Information Center in Vilnius looking for a day trip. All the recommended day trips were stops on the Riga - Vilnius Sightseeing Tour Bus. Our tour guide was energetic, informative and fun! I would highly recommend this tour.
A excellent way to travel between Riga and Tallinn and see the countryside. I enjoyed the stops. The guides were very informative but would have preferred less time at military museum and more time at Cesis.
Took the tour on June 22nd and It was a very good way to explore the area, mostly because I didn't have the time to explore the places by myself. The other travelers in my tour were great and the guide was also very knowledgeable ( I think it was Jaan). I asked to be dropped off half of the way to catch a bus to Tartu and they manged pretty well my special request. It was really worth it. Highly recommended.
A good trip south to Riga with a bunch of like people. Great lunch too.
What an interesting adventure! I never would have seen any of the places that we went to if it weren't for this tour. Definitely consider it if you are traveling between Riga and Tallinn. Beats the train and bus every day.
Jaan was a fantastic guide who made the journey fun and informative. We saw some interesting sights and learnt a lot of important history about Estonia. I especially liked the museum stop. The museum itself wasn't exceptional but Jaan's narrative on modern Estonia using the exhibits was great. Totally recommended.
To complete our tour of the Baltics, we of course had to go to quiet Estonia. Our tour guide grew up in Tartu and currently resides in Tallinn so he knew the area very well. There are a couple of stops in Latvia where you get to see the remnants of an old castle. You get to see the sand stone cliffs though beware that this is a hike of climbing stairs so make sure to wear sneakers. Our guide was very nice and provided us with bug spray because of the mosquitoes but the real problem turned out to be the flies that circled your head and never landed which actually led to the 6 o'clock fly story so even that had a positive spin to things. Lunch was just over the Estonian border in the city of two countries (Valka in Latvian and Valga in Estonian) and this was followed by a trip to a military museum where Jaan shared his personal experience in the mandatory defence forces and what it was like to grow up during all of these changing times for Estonia. He also picked out some items to give funny stories to make the museum more light hearted. That part of the trip alone would have earned this tour 5 stars. We then went to see the ruins of a castle and it's three lines of defence and while there, we got to try out the kiik. We definitely didn't go 360 but it was still fun. We got dropped of in Old Town of Tallinn between the information center and freedom square so it was really easy to navigate. Great job Jaan. Sorry Estonia didn't pick the hedgehog as the national animal.
We had a hugely enjoyable trip from Tallinn to Riga with Janne as our driver and guide. Indeed in some ways it was quite the best day of our holiday! In addition to seeing places we might never otherwise have visited, we learned a great deal about the history of Estonia and Latvia. (Surrounded and fought over by bigger states, in many ways they have suffered from too much history.) The places we visited and the information Jaan provided were an fascinating introduction to a part of Europe we would like to know better. The lunch too was excellent! Thank you, Janne, and Tallinn Traveller Tours, for a memorable day.
Lovely day with witty and attentive Jaan as guide ☺ Thank you!
I enjoyed our group, satisfied with the places we have visited and most of all happy with the driver-guide who is very knowledgeable and accomodating (i don't know if his name is just Jaan or Jaan-Kristian; our tour was on 12th June)
This was a long day, although as advertised almost 12 hours. Our guide, Jaan, was excellent. He was very knowledgeable, helpful, polite and nothing was too much trouble. He looked after us very well. We felt that the day two stops could have been omitted. although I appreciate it was as per itinerary. Everyone was tired. The (hired) bus could have been cleaner inside. Not up to the standard of vehicle used on previous trip.
We took the day trip to Laheema National Park, and it's well worth the money. If you are in Tallinn and have seen all the sites in the old town, I would recommend taking this day trip to see the northern country side, which includes a walk over the bog and a visit to a lovely fishing village on the Baltic Sea. The tour was excellent, our guide Ian (maybe it spells Jann?) spoke perfect English, was very knowledgeable and friendly and was a great guide. There were 6 people in our tour, and they don't take more than 8 people in the van, which is the perfect size.
What a great way to see choice bits of Estonia and Latvia outside their capitals. Our well-informed guide led us on a well-organized tour. Even our lunch was efficient. We placed our orders, the guide phoned them in, and lunch was ready for us right after we sat down.
